I am truly, madly, deeply in love with my garlic press. It’s probably been my favourite kitchen tool for ten years. I use it at least 3-4 times a week.
Here’s what’s so amazing about it:
- There’s no need to peel your garlic clove, just toss it in the press and squeeze!
- Simple clean-up! It comes with a little cleaning tool that snaps into the handle, I just rinse mine in the sink and use the attached cleaning tool.
- You can also use it for squeezing ginger, it’s a little harder to squeeze the press but it gets lots of really tasty juice from the root. I peel my ginger first, chop it into 1inch squares and then crush it in the garlic press.
Garlic isn’t only packed with flavor, it’s also packed with health benefits. The characteristic sharp garlic smell is actually a sulfur compound called allicin that is emitted when garlic is crushed or cut, I like to think about it as it’s own little defence mechanism. Allicin is known to have great anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-oxidant properties. Other compounds like ajoene and alliin have an effect on the circulatory, digestive and immunological systems of our body and help in lowering blood pressure, detoxification and healing.
AS IF you need more reasons to eat garlic!
